Our Values
- We nurture our relationships with employees, customers and farmers by fostering a growth mindset.
- We’re progressive in our business approach, and respectful of every individual’s contribution to our team.
- As a 100% farmer owned cooperative, our farming community are at the heart of everything we do.
- We continuously strive to support and improve our local farmers’ livelihoods.
- We value the environment around us and will prioritise the longevity of it’s natural resources for generations to come.
Our Commitment
- We are committed to putting our farmers and the community first.
- ArraTipp Cooperative continue to be proud members of pioneering sustainability initiatives such as Origin Green, Teagasc Signpost Farms and Sustainable Dairy Assurance Scheme.
- ArraTipp Cooperative are certified to the International Energy Management System Standard ISO 50001 and will leverage this to identify what processes and equipment with high energy consumption that can be targeted to reduce energy use and improve energy efficiencies.
Our Progress
- Since 2021, 100% of our milk supply now comes from SDAS certified farms.
- Through a variety of energy saving projects such as heat pump technology, heat recovery, boiler efficiencies and standing loss reduction, we have achieved a reduction in total energy usage per unit on the Ingredients site in Nenagh by 19% since 2020, which is far more than our targeted 12% reduction.
- In April 2025 in partnership with Astatine (Irish industrial decarbonisation specialists) we installed a 5.6MW solar farm comprising of 12,815 solar panels beside our manufacturing plant in Nenagh, the electricity produced on the farm is used on our site and will reduce our annual grid electricity by 15%.
- We are new members of All Ireland Pollinator Plan and are looking forward to implementing a number of biodiversity initiatives this year.
- Electrical vehicle chargers are being rolled out across a number of our sites, the first has gone live in the Ingredients site in Nenagh for staff and visitors, to be followed by staff and visitor chargers in Dan O’Connnors and Public fast chargers in Tyone, Athenry, Tipperary town and Newport Retail stores in the coming months.
The Sustainable Dairy Assurance Scheme (SDAS)
The SDAS is the a national dairy scheme that sets out requirements for best practice on Irish dairy farms in animal health and welfare, land management, biosecurity, safe-farming practices and the production of safe milk. The Bord Bia Sustainable Dairy Assurance Scheme was developed in cooperation with milk producers, processors and regulatory authorities. It also provides a framework for measuring the continuous improvement of each participating farmer, recording and monitoring sustainability credentials at farm level.
Farm by farm, we are measuring and improving.
Now being implemented on effectively all ArraTipp’s dairy farms, the Sustainable Dairy Assurance Scheme is a rigorous, independently verified and internationally accredited programme. (European Standard for Product Certification – ISO 17065: 2012)
With our temperate climate and plentiful rainfall, Ireland is naturally suited to sustainable dairy farming. Our dairy cows have the freedom to graze outdoors for up to 270 days a year.
Our grass-based production system puts Ireland and ArraTipp on an ideal footing as we set out on our sustainability journey. Ireland already has the most carbon efficient dairy production within the EU, while our water footprint and water stress index compare favourably to that of other countries. (Source: EU JRC Report 2010)
In fact, 80% of Ireland’s agricultural land is devoted to grasslands, with a yearly grass growth rate that exceeds the European average by more than a third. Grazing on such rich pastureland, our cows produce milk of the highest quality and, of course, healthy calves. These newborn calves also benefit from the fact that Irish dairy farmers strategically plan their calving to make the most of the seasonal increase in grass growth.
Green Ireland
Origin Green is Ireland’s national contract with nature – the country’s comprehensive and evidence-based sustainability programme.
Arratipp Ingredients are proud to be a verified member of the programme, the only sustainability programme in the world that operates on a national scale, uniting government, the private sector and food producers through Bord Bia, the Irish Food Board.
ISO Certification
At ArraTipp, we are committed to sustainability and continuous improvement across our business. We are proud to announce that since achieving ISO50001 certification in 2020, we’ve made significant strides in reducing our carbon footprint and enhancing energy efficiency.
Carbon Emission Reduction: We’ve reduced our scope 1 carbon emissions from 5.5 tonnes to 4.7 tonnes per 100,000 litres of milk.
Innovative Heat Pump: Commissioned in 2020, our new heat pump provides chilled water, recovering heat and offsetting 2 tonnes of steam per hour in our casein plants.
Boiler Optimisation: By optimizing our boilers, we’ve been able to switch off one of our three steam boilers, saving an impressive 2.5 GW of thermal energy.
Heat Recovery: The installation of a heat recovery system on our whey spray dryer is delivering an additional 2.8 GW of thermal savings p.a. The initiatives are part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, and we are dedicated to reducing our environmental impact!
All Ireland Pollinator Plan
At ArraTipp, we’re proud to be a business supporter of the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan (AIPP)—a national initiative dedicated to reversing the decline of Ireland’s pollinating insects. As a co-operative rooted in the rural landscape, we understand that healthy pollinator populations are essential not only for biodiversity, but also for sustainable agriculture and the long-term resilience of the farming community we serve.
Sustainable Dairy Partnership (SDP)
ArraTipp is a proud member of the SAI Platform, we are committed to advancing sustainability across the global dairy value chain through the Sustainable Dairy Partnership (SDP).
The SDP is an internationally recognised framework that provides a consistent, credible approach for dairy processors and buyers to work together on sustainability. It builds on the Dairy Sustainability Framework (DSF) and focuses on 11 key environmental, social, and economic priorities — including greenhouse-gas emissions, water management, biodiversity, animal welfare, and rural livelihoods.
By implementing the SDP, we demonstrate our commitment to responsible sourcing, transparent reporting, and continuous improvement. The framework helps align our sustainability efforts with global best practice, reduce duplication of audits, and ensure that progress is verified and measurable.
Through participation in the SDP, we aim to deliver value for our farmers, customers, and communities — while contributing to a more sustainable and resilient dairy sector worldwide.
Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)
We are committed to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions in line with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) — a global framework that helps businesses set climate goals grounded in the latest science. By aligning our targets with the Paris Agreement, we aim to limit global warming to well below 2°C and pursue efforts toward 1.5°C. This commitment ensures our sustainability actions are transparent, measurable, and contribute meaningfully to a low-carbon future for the dairy industry and the planet.
We have submitted our Climate targets to SBTI and hope to receive validation on these in early 2026.
