Our History
Co-operation has always been at the heart of Irish farming, dating back centuries to the spirit of meitheal — the age-old tradition of neighbours coming together to support one another at every stage of the farming cycle.
This cooperative ethos gained formal structure in the late 19th century with the leadership of Horace Plunkett and the rise of Ireland’s Co-Op movement. It laid the groundwork for what would become a powerful, farmer-led dairy industry.
Tipperary Cooperative was founded in 1908 in Tipperary Town, followed by the establishment of Nenagh Co-Op Creamery in 1913. Both played central roles in shaping dairy excellence in the heart of the Golden Vale and North Tipperary. Over the decades, these Co-Ops grew through local creamery mergers, staying true to their farmer-owned foundations.
In 2001, Nenagh Co-Op and Mid West Co-Op united to form Arrabawn Co-Op, solidifying a long-standing relationship and creating a stronger collective presence in the industry.
Today, under the unified name ArraTipp, we continue to build on this proud legacy. With modern processing facilities in both Nenagh and Tipperary town, we produce a wide range of high-quality dairy ingredients and products including butter, acid casein, caseinates, skim milk powder, whey, fatfilled powder and buttermilk powder.
Our Dairy Ingredients division is a trusted partner to many of the world’s top food brands, with our products reaching over 150 countries globally. We pride ourselves on flexibility, innovation, and the ability to adapt to each customer’s unique needs.
In addition to dairy production, ArraTipp operates a thriving Agri-Trading and Hardware network across Tipperary Town, Borrisoleigh, and Gooldscross Cashel — continuing our mission to support farmers and rural communities in every way possible.
As a farmer-owned cooperative, our purpose remains simple: Together We Grow.
